This online New Student Orientation is comprised of 11 modules providing important information that will help you begin your successful academic experience at Metro State. Please reserve up to two (2) hours to complete your New Student Orientation. Many modules have short (5 or 6 question) quizzes to assess your learning. You will have up to three chances (if needed) to score at least 80% in order to advance and successfully complete Orientation.
StarID
You will self-register for New Student Orientation which is housed within “D2L Brightspace” (D2L) using your StarID with password and D2L’s “Discover” tool. If you do not know your StarID you can activate or retrieve it here.
D2L and the Discover Tool
If you have never used D2L you will find three (3) short videos on the sign-in page here. Once you log in you will go to the “Discover” tab located in the dark blue menu bar near the top of the page. The “New Student Online Orientation” workshop should already be visible to you. If not, you can search “New Student Online Orientation” to find it.

Select the course which will open up a new page where you can then select “Enroll In Course”.
A popup will emerge saying Successfully Enrolled: New Student Online Orientation will soon be available in the My Courses widget.
Press OK.
Now you will be able to “Open Course” and begin Orientation.
It may take up to three (3) business days to for the Student Life staff to verify the successful completion of online New Student Orientation. You will receive an email notification to your university e-mail account (firstname.lastname@my.metrostate.edu or StarID@go.minnstate.edu) confirming your online New Student Orientation completion.
